Sporting Legacy Series

"Phesant Hunt" - 11 x 14 oil on panel

I've decided to start a series of Still Lifes with vintage sporting magazine covers incorporated into the composition. Magazines such as Field & Stream featured cover art from some of America's greatest artists. Two of which are my favorites. Those being Howard Turpning and the late Bob Kuhn.

Here is the final sketch on the panel of the first in the series. "Pheasant Hunt".

Weimaraners

Weimaraners - 12 x 16 inch oil on panel

Have you ever had one of those times where you started a project and it went so well that you could not stop?
That's the way this one went.
I planned on sketching out the Weimaraners tonight and just transfering them to the panel.
That went so well that I said why not start the background.
I went with a more loose and simple background as to draw more attention to the dogs.
It went so well that I then said why not start on the dog pointing....
Well you know the rest of the story.
So here is the finished painitng for the "Weim and Cheese Fundraiser" being held by the Weimaraner Rescue of the South.

No I'll let it dry, frame it and get it to them this week.
I hope that it does well for them.

The Look

The Look - 5 x 7 inch oil on panel

This is the last cow for a few days. Time to work on a piece for the Weimaraner Rescue of the South. They hold an annual fundraiser called "Weim and Cheese" and I will be donating a painting for the auction.

These guys do great work for abused Weimaraners. Check them out @ http://www.weimrescue.org/

On more sitting...

I should be finished with these guys tonight.
I had hoped that I would finish last night, but....
I still want to work on the body more and need to lay in the background.
I'm unsure of how that will look.

Zebras

I had a good night at the easle and got more done than expected.
That is good since I'm behind schedule.
This is turning out to be a fun one. I'm enjoying the simplicity of the black and white stripes.

Making Waves

I framed this guy today.

Zebras

Zebras - 11 x14 oil on panel

This is a painting that I will enter into the Energen Art Competition.
I now have the drawing fininshed and the panel primed so time to paint.
I usually do the background first but on this one I will do the animals first.
The white paint dries slower than any other color for some reason.

Almost Finished

It's down hill from here.
I'll let this dry for a few days then come back with a a few touch ups and details.
I hope these guys were tired after I chased them for over an hour to get a good reference photo.

One to Go

I went ahead and knocked out the hen this morning before going to work.
So now I have my 70's music on and after checking email I'll work on the drake.

On the easle

I forgot to get a photo of the initial drawing before I started painting so here is the first look.
I've got the base of the water down and will start on the ducks tonight when I get home from work.
I do most of my painting when I get home.
I work evening shift at the Homewood Police Department so painting doesn't start until 11:00 pm.
I sit in my studio and listen to sky fm 70's on the computer and paint until about 2 or 3 am.
It's my time.

It's going to be an 8 x 10 so it should be done by Wednesday.... It has to be done by Wednesday as it's one of my entries into this years Alabama Wildlife Federation Art Show.
The deadline is on the 15th.
Nothing like waiting until the last minute.
